Second Grade students created a setting full of foliage after looking at work by Rousseau and reading Keith Baker's book Who's the Beast. Students learned about the parts of insect bodies and created their insect with symmetrical wings.
These are absolutely gorgeous! Can I ask what the cute bugs are made out of? Is the foilage black oil pastel on black paper and then chalk pastels? Thanks for sharing these!
Thanks.. it is a lesson a student teacher started and I have just pushed it farther and made it my own.. don't we all do that? It is oil pastel on colored construction paper..gave students choices. We painted black tempera over it and then blotted most off. The insect is made of fabric for the body parts and the wings are waxed paper, colored with permanent markers. I have done the insects several ways but this is my favorite.
